To say Bill Egan is passionate about cars doesn’t even begin to cover it. From his experience working with some of the country’s top dealer groups to his personal automotive obsessions (like the 1999 yellow Plymouth Prowler in his driveway), it’s clear that the car business is in his blood. But he’s also a superstar at maximizing dealership opportunities through exceptional customer experience, and he brings that wealth of knowledge every day to his role as Vice President of Business Development at 3 Birds.

Bill started his career on the sales side with Crown Honda of Greensboro, but soon found himself leaning toward a more marketing-focused role. When he took a leadership position with the Asbury Automotive group, he was hooked. There, he worked to streamline marketing programs across multiple platforms and establish the company’s online brand.

Bill spent a total of 7 years with Asbury, then joined the 3 Birds team as Director of Marketing and Product. When Gulf States Toyota gave him an offer he couldn’t turn down, he left the nest to become Senior Manager of Sales Operations in Digital. One of his main concerns at GST was evaluating what dealerships looked like online: what they’re doing, what the customer experience was like, and how that affected revenue and opportunities. In the search for a solution to these challenges, GST released an RFP (request for proposal) to find the right match. 3 Birds was among the participants, and eventually won the business. Once the collaboration was made official, Bill was an integral part in the initial roll-out of the Assessment program to a total of 154 stores.

After 3 and half years at GST, Bill and his wife Kathryn were planning a move back to Chapel Hill so Kathryn could work towards her Doctorate. Through a series of discussions with his current team and former colleagues at 3 Birds, Bill took on his new role as Vice President of Business Development—and we couldn’t be happier to have him back in the nest.

Bill will be working closely with [3 Birds founder] Kristen Judd and the 3 Birds team to distribute the Assessments program and other core products into larger platforms, and build deeper relationships with dealers and manufacturers. But most of all, the decision to come back to 3 Birds, he says, “really came down to the people. I absolutely love everyone here.”

When he’s not dropping marketing knowledge, Bill loves playing beach volleyball and spending quality time with Kathryn, white lab Gus, and cat, Rudy. When asked to name his car alter-ego, he said, “you’re going to laugh…but it’s a 1999 Yellow Plymouth Prowler (below)...I actually have that car. It is obnoxious…my wife hates it…but I wanted that car ever since I was a little kid.”

Hailing from South Bend, Indiana, Bill is a self-proclaimed “pizza nut” and has an affinity for the delicious cheese pie that is Chicago-style deep dish. He’s worked hard to perfect his own recipe over the years, and he’s become quite well-known around the office for his skills.

We couldn’t be happier to have Bill back on the 3 Birds team. We’re excited to see what the future brings – fingers crossed it involves some of his famous deep dish.
