After months of preparation, 3 Birds raced hard in the inaugural Triangle Pushcart Rally in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, September 6th. What’s a Pushcart Rally? If you’ve seen Little Rascals, it’s basically the end race scene, minus all the chrome, plus more speed. Teams built four-wheeled carts and raced them on a downhill racecourse ¼ mile long and 5 stories high. Two team members push the cart initially to build momentum, then it’s up to the driver. Yes, it is awesome, but it gets better. Not only did we get to spend an afternoon hurling ourselves downhill at high speeds in a makeshift pushcart, but the whole event benefited a good cause in our community.
Neighbor to Neighbor
In addition to racing, each team pledged to meet a fundraising minimum to benefit Neighbor to Neighbor, a local nonprofit organization serving the needs of the Southeast Raleigh community. Since its inception in 1994, Neighbor to Neighbor has done amazing things to “cultivate life-changing relationships resulting in communities of hope, justice, and compassion.” For more information about N2N’s cause and outreach efforts, click here.
Our Road to Victory
After a lot of elbow grease and many test drives with varying levels of success,
we built this lean, mean, racing machine:
Even though there was some steep competition at the rally, we’re proud to say that 3 Birds didn’t lose a race, and we walked away champions.
Sponsors
We’d like to give a big shout-out to our generous sponsors for supporting the cause, and helping us meet our fundraising goal: IP3 Pizzeria (@Ip3_Chapel_Hill), Crown Honda Southpoint (@CrownHondaSP), Al’s Burger Shack (@alsburgershack), and Beer Study (@BeerStudy).
